HP Laptop Power Cord Recall

On August 26, 2014 Hewlett-Packard (HP) announced a worldwide voluntary recall on some AC power cords distributed with HP and Compaq notebook computers, as well as with AC adapters provided with accessories such as docking stations, sold from September 2010 through June 2012. HP believes that certain power cords shipped with notebook PC products and AC adapter accessories may pose a risk of a fire and burn hazard to customers.

The power cords are black in color and have an “LS-15” molded mark on the AC adapter end of the power cord.
This recall affects only the power cord itself and not the power supply (black brick).

"Any laptop can break, but some manufacturers have a better track record than others. A 2009 study by SquareTrade, that looked at failure rates over the course of three years, found that Asus' electronics broke the least often (followed very closely by Toshiba) and HP's broke the most often. In fact, with HP, you had more than a one in four chance of getting a broken laptop in those three years. That may seem high, but even the best couldn't achieve a failure rate below 15%.
