Nuit Blanche Ottawa

Nuit Blanche—literally “white night”—is a sleepless night that translates to “an all-night arts and culture extravaganza”. It happens in cities world wide.

This free public event will transform public and private spaces across 3 main zones - the Byward Zone, the Hintonburg Zone, and the Kids Zone. There are also 2 transient spaces, which are used to identify projects where artists prefer to move around the zones or beyond our borders. These spaces are called Roaming, and Outer Place. There will be everything from a yarn bombed bus to interactive projections, to pop-up galleries, a roaming Capoiera troupe and a neighborhood block party!

On Saturday, September 22, 2012, thousands of people will attend Ottawa’s very first Nuit Blanche, to witness a city pulsing with color and creativity. Art and cultural venues will remain open late in to the night as art lovers of all ages, residents and tourists alike, walk through the warm fall night to experience innovative and provocative works by artists from Ottawa and beyond.

Nuit Blanche Ottawa+Gatineau 2013

Nuit Blanche Ottawa+Gatineau is a 1 night per year, dusk-until-dawn celebration of Contemporary Art and local culture that takes place across multiple venues and within the cityscape of Ottawa and Gatineau. Nuit Blanche showcases the creativity and cohesion of the local community and the success of its industries. Approximately 160 artists took part in the inaugural event, and it was attended by approximately 30 000 smiling people on September 22nd, 2012, between 6pm and 4am.

It is a platform for recognizing the region within the national and international arts and festival scene, and it fosters the region as a cultural destination while generating revenue for local businesses.

The inaugural event, in 2012, was part of a quartet of Nuit Blanche events that took place across Ontario, organised by Bravo (Bureau de Regroupement Arts Visuels de lʼOntario) with the financial support from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.

In March 2013 Nuit Blanche Ottawa+Gatineau became an independent Not-for-Profit Foundation under the Canadian Incorporation Act. The first board of directors meeting was held on April 10th at the Council for the Arts in Ottawa.

The 2013 event will take place on September 21st, from 6:21pm to 4:22am. The event zones will be published with the programming in August.
